Frequently asked questions
Is MPG the same as MPEG or MPEG-2?
Effectively yes — .mpg and .mpeg files carry MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video. DVDs and VCDs use the same family. The tool detects which variant yours is automatically.
Why is the MP4 so much smaller than my MPG?
MPEG-2 needed roughly twice the bits of H.264 for the same picture. A visually faithful re-encode therefore lands dramatically smaller — typical DVD-era files shrink 40–60% with no visible loss.
Can I convert a whole DVD?
This tool converts video files (.mpg/.mpeg/.vob renamed to .mpg), not copy-protected disc structures. Rip the disc to a file first with a desktop tool; the resulting MPG converts here privately.
