Frequently asked questions
Why does my PNG barely shrink but my friend's JPG shrinks a lot?
PNG stores pixels losslessly — there is no quality setting to trade with. JPG and WebP are lossy formats built for exactly that trade. If your PNG is photographic, converting it to WebP or JPG (one click above) is the real compression.
When should I keep PNG format?
Transparency (logos, overlays), screenshots with text you want pixel-crisp, and graphics with flat colors. For those, PNG is right — and our re-encode plus a size-targeted dimension trim is the safe way to reduce it.
Will converting my PNG to JPG lose the transparency?
JPG has no transparency — transparent areas are matted onto white. If transparency matters, choose WebP instead: it compresses like JPG but keeps the alpha channel.
